On Fort Avenue you are sure to pass a corner shop with a daringly red sign that reads: ‘MIND PUB’.
The name allured me. I began to think about the things it could be. It is a bar. No, it is a board game shop. No, it is…and I drove onward and it was in the rear view mirror.
This happened about a hundred more times. One day, while walking along Fort with a friend the shop entered my vantage point but a little closer. My friend asked me if I had been. No, it is a fortune teller shop or a bar, I only pass this on my way to show a house I answered.
Mind Pub Cafe is my new favorite spot for coffee and a quick flavor packed bite. It has a two story space with nooks for quiet conversations, reading or working. Mind Pub is proudly Baltimorean with exposed beams and brick and proud photos of famous Baltimore residents. It has a commissary kitchen: a shared workspace for collaboration with other vendors. Mind Pub is a fun place for community events. They just-so-happen to host a BYOW (bring your own wine) Book Club; which, if you’re reading this blog, chances are you’re into that.
Check out that sammy below. It is their Darwin comprised of Brie, bacon, egg, apple jam on a toasted asiago cheese bagel. It is the breakfast sandwich combination I’ve always wanted!
I like that Mind Pub isn’t one thing. Not just a coffee shop or ice cream shop, not just a market with local goods and not just a community kitchen. My POV? I see an owner determined to collaborate with others by strategically presenting creative opportunities for businesses.
The lesson I learned is that there are gems hiding in plain sight. Also, be like my friend and tell people about the places you discover; who know, it could become their new favorite place! We are better together.
And for the record. Baltimore, you just became a cooler place because of Mind Pub.
